Bill of Rights
The first 10 Amendments of the Constitution are known as the Bill of Rights. They became part of the Constitution on December 15, 1791. The laws are very specific and lay out the fundamental rights of the citizens of the United States to protect them from the abuse of corrupt government officials or the whims of popular majority. The Constitution lays out the basic framework of our central government with checks and balances. But it doesn't protect the people from corruption. So many of the delegates debated until they came up with the amendments that would protect the people from inconsistent and oppressive rule, and limit the new federal government.
